How to Spot a Phishing Email
- Urgent Threats: Scammers create a false sense of urgency (e.g., "your account will be suspended" or "unauthorized login"). They may mention payroll or other time-sensitive issues to push immediate action.
- Suspicious Links/Attachments: Do not click links or download attachments unless you were expecting them from that sender. If unsure, start a new email or call to verify — do not reply directly to the message.
- Generic Greetings: Phishing emails often use generic greetings like "Dear Valued Customer" instead of your actual name.
- Incorrect Sender Domain: Check email addresses carefully for misspellings:
- rnicrosoft / [RNicrosoft] → microsoft
- googIe / [Googie] → google
- clocusign / [CLocusign] → docusign
- Spoofed Senders: Emails may appear to come from your organization but are not legitimate. Warning signs include unusual grammar, odd wording, or unexpected requests. If unsure, verify through a known contact method.
